About “The Grind Coach”
Jim Johnson began skateboarding and freestyle bmx riding when he was 13 years old in 1984. In 1986 he started participating in local BMX freestyle competitions, and by 1987 he was fully sponsored by the Schwinn bicycle company, and Vision Street wear clothing and shoe company. In 1988 Jim toured the United States with the schwinn freestyle team doing demos at almost every Schwinn bike shop in the country. When freestyle BMX died in the early 90’s Jim continued to skateboard for enjoyment while going to college. He became a 5th grade teacher in the Martin County School District in 1997. Through the years, continuing to skateboard, Jim has progressed through many different trends in skateboarding. Because of this, he has developed a well rounded knowledge of tricks. Jim continues to push the limits of his skating and is constantly learning new things while skating his backyard bowl and local area skateparks.
